Young @ Heart Fellowship

By Sheila Herbert

The Young @ Heart fellowship meeting began back in 2011, at Commonwealth Avenue Baptist Church, it was called inter-church fellowship. We then changed the name to The Senior’s Fellowship Meeting.

Before we started having it at CABC we would meet with First Filipino Baptist church and Grace international Baptist church.

The purpose for having this event at CABC if to encourage the gathering of inter-denominational churches. This was to encourage our seniors to have fellowship with other Christ believing brothers and sisters from other churches. This gave us the opportunity to worship together, to have Scripture reading, games, quizzes, fellowship and fun one with another, whilst getting to know each other.

It has also given the opportunity to share God’s word, and to share their testimony as to how God has been keeping each one day by day, to share the blessings that they have received in their senior years. We also have all the churches participating, whether it is in songs, poems, or storytelling; whatever God has laid on their hearts.

This event has achieved its goal, each year we have may seniors joining us, they look forward to this time of refreshing with one with another, and to meet other brothers and sisters from other churches and getting to build friendships and relationships. Many of the churches do not have seniors’ activities and there are not many seniors in some of the churches, so it is a great time for gathering together.

For me personally, it has impacted my life in many ways. First, it is a blessing to know that God has given us His promise in His word. In Psalms 92:14; They shall bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing, I also learn from Titus 4: 4-5 that we should take our younger women and that we must be examples and always be sober.

It gives joy to see seniors being happy and rejoicing in the Lord, that they can relax with those of their same age group, and even though they might be having aches and pains they can be friends and relate one to another.

I do hope that this event will continue even if I am not around, that the seniors at Christ Almighty Baptist church will never feel left out that they will always be recognized as a blessing to this congregation.

Yes, we always have guests from other churches and new guests from our congregation. This year we were blessed that the Young People’s Ministry band joined us in worship, what a blessing they were, and we thank the young people who operated the audio room.

What can we say but, “TO GOD BE THE GLORY FOR THE THINGS HE HAS DONE?”

Christ and The Gospel as Foundation of Missions

By Marielle Lachica

“This was the first time I’ve taken part in the G3 conference and I thank the Lord for this opportunity to attend it. The theme of this year’s conference was based on missions.

The conference emphasized the significant role of the local church and how important their involvement is in missions. The church is the epicenter; it’s the incubator, nurturer, ordainer, sender, disciples, and supporter. It is involved in the entire process of missions.

It also emphasized that Christ and the Gospel are to be the foundation and proclamation in missions (and in everything else in general). There is no other message to proclaim but the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all nations and without Christ as the foundation, everything will fall apart.”

G3 Testimony Series - Biblical Truths of The Role of The Local Church in Missions

By Francis Vidal & Laura Vidal

“The Grace, Gospel, Glory Conference (G3) was a tremendous blessing to say the least. Rarely do you find a conference that promotes the importance of the local church within life of the Christian. The G3 conference on missions echoed biblical truths of the role of the local church in proclaiming the gospel to all nations, teaching them to obey all that Jesus had commanded.” - Francis Vidal

“G3 was both challenging and refreshing! I thought David Platt summarized the entire conference’s focus on missions with this statement “The accomplishment of the great commission will include a great price, BUT eternity will prove its worth”. Ultimately salvation and the working out of it belongs to the Lord, and what an honour that he chooses and commissions us as messengers! Despite the honour of the great commission, Jesus knows our weaknesses, so he commanded us not to be anxious or afraid. One day, we will see our Lord and Saviour’s face - I pray I live more in the light of this truth.” - Laura Vidal

G3 Testimony Series - Missions is to Ultimately Please and Glorify God

By Arsielle Joy Poquiz

Before attending the G3 Conference, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was very hesitant on

going due to fear of what might be taught or if I was going to get judged. However, I can testify that the conference was nothing but spiritually sustaining.

The theme of this year’s conference was Biblical Missions. Missions is mostly interpreted as going to an unknown place and sharing the gospel. Although this may be true, Missions is so much more. Missions is creating a relationship with someone. Missions is about getting out of our comfort zone. Missions is to ultimately please and glorify God.

One of the sermons that pulled at my heartstrings was called “Mercy for Sinners, Not Saints” which is found in Jonah 4. The preacher, Mark Dever, talked about God’s goodness - if in our eyes is bad, then we should examine ourselves. To add, he preaches on how compassion should not be forced, for our self-pride, and should ultimately come from God. The reason why this sermon resonates with me is because of how important it is to examine ourselves every day.

The heart is deceitful (Jeremiah 17:9) therefore, we should always make sure that our desires, motivations, and thoughts are Christ-centered. For this reason, Missions should never be about us but rather to do God’s will with a sound mind and heart.

1 Corinthians 10:31

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

G3 Testimony Series - Spreading The “Fragrance” of Jesus in The Local Community

By Maryanne Borja

The Gospel, Grace, Glory Conference (G3) emphasized the role and importance of the local church in missions. In order to build healthy new churches, it is very important to have expository pulpit preaching and to have biblically qualified leaders (Titus 1:5-9, 1 Timothy 3:1-13, 1 Peter 5:1-4). There must also be real accountability from within the church and to those who are being sent out to the mission field.

As a church we must carefully examine our underlying motive as we participate in the mission of God. What is the message that we are preaching? What have we done to spread the fragrance of Jesus in the local community of Commonwealth Avenue that Christ Almighty Baptist Church is located in?
