Knowing Christ Through Change

Life is always changing. Circumstances around us are always changing. How do we know Christ in the midst of change? Have you ever been so overwhelmed in the changes of your life that you became lost and confused? We can trust that in the midst of change, Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.

There have been many changes in technology over the years. When I was in high school I had a pager and a quarter to make phone calls. Nowadays it seems as though even elementary school children have cell phones. According to Popular Mechanics, technology will change even more drastically in the future. Some scientists say that we will have technology that will be able to predict traffic jams, bridges that repair themselves with self-healing concrete, and 3D printers that can print car parts, birthday cakes and Rolexes. We will have self-cleaning clothes and 60 years from now and texts from cell phones will be zapped directly into our brains.

Some of these might seem far-fetched, but we know technology does not stay the same and is always changing. Thankfully we have a God that will never change even in this ever changing world. In Hebrews 13:8, the author is talking to Jewish Christians and telling them not to swerve away to strange and different teachings. The author was telling them that the Jesus they knew yesterday is the same today and the same for eternity; and for them to stand firm in Christ the Rock, no matter what change happens in this world.

Psalm 102:27 says that God never changes and that He will be the same forever. Malachi 3:6 says that God’s character never changes so you can always trust Him. His purposes do not change so we as believers in Christ need to trust in Him and His will. Isaiah 46:4 says that God will never fail us. So in the midst of changes in your life and outside circumstances, you can still know Christ intimately as the unshakeable Rock. That word “forever” in Hebrews 13:8, in the original Greek, is referring to eternal life with Christ. We have hope as true followers of Christ that when the waves around us become so high and life becomes unbearable, we know that we will spend eternity with the changeless Lord of lords and King of all kings.

Now that I am married, I am learning to continue to know Christ through changes in life. My wife and I need to seek God as a unit. It is not just about me and my relationship with Christ but we need to seek Him together. God-willing if we will have kids, we would need to learn to seek God as a family. Jess and I will have the responsibility of raising our kids into becoming men and women of God. Though these circumstances will cause change in my life, I know Christ does not; He is the same yesterday, today and forever. We must continue to love God with all of our heart, soul and mind regardless of what happens.

I would like to encourage you to never give up in your walk with Jesus Christ. Just like in Matthew 14:22-33 when Peter stepped out on the water and began to sink when he saw the waves, Jesus was right there to lift him up. He is there to lift you up as well. Life does not always go the way we want and sometimes curve-balls are thrown our way, but we can have peace knowing that Christ is our foundation and He can never be moved.

If you are reading this and do not know Christ as your Lord and Savior, I encourage you to place your faith in him. It is not by works that you are saved but by faith alone in Jesus Christ. You need to confess you sins and repent and turn away from sin. You cannot just continue to live in sin but you must turn away from it. Salvation is found in Christ alone and the work that He has done on the cross. Please talk to me or Pastor Elbern if you like to have more information in becoming a follower of Christ. Please pray with me if you have made the decision to follow Christ. “Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner. I repent of my sins. I need a Saviour and I cannot save myself. I place my faith in Jesus Christ and I accept you Jesus as my Lord and my Savior.” For the believer please pray with me in your heart this prayer. “Dear God help me to trust in You in the midst of change. Help me to know you Christ with all of my heart no matter what circumstances change around me. Help me to stand firm and help me to not lose my first love in Christ no matter what waves come my way, in Jesus name, Amen.
